Sebastian Ramon Jara was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, in 1906 and immigrated to Texas a year later with his mother. He spent his next seventeen years on a ranch, "Los Quinientos Acres," near Edinburgh, Texas. He and his mother left the ranch after a feud, and he worked as a chauffeur in Edinburgh for some time.
