1. Portrait of Reverend Edward D. Neill, early minister and state historian of Minnesota

- Description:
- Reverend Edward D. Neill, a Presbyterian minister who founded multiple churches in Minnesota. He was also state superintendent of education and chancellor of the University of Minnesota from 1858-1861. He then served as a chaplain of the First Minnesota Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. Later, he would become the private secretary to Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. Neill served as president of Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, from 1873-1874, and taught history and literature. This image is by Arthur Adams, Minneapolis high school teacher, local historian, and photographer. Adams traveled throughout Minnesota, taking photographs to augment his lectures. His studio was located at 3648 Lyndale Avenue South in Minneapolis.
