Work crew at the Highmark farm in Nopeming (Midway Township, Minnesota). The Highmarks were among the earliest member of the church. The Swedish Christian Mission Church got Christmas trees from this farm.
This 1878 pocket diary records the daily farming activities of Newton Persons as well as the farm's production and employment. It includes weather information as well as details on neighbors and family members. He also visited friends and relatives in Indiana and met his future wife, Phebe Grills. The diary records their wedding on September 19, 1878. Daily entries consist of a few short lines, and the book contains a cash account, calendars, and other information.
Edward H. Beise farmstead with two adults and four children. Note on photo says,"Farmstead of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Beise just outside of the village of Mapleton in 1897. Trees are all planted by Mr. Biese--over 100 evergreen trees alone. August 1897."
Ernest Levine lived on a farm west of St. Peter. His interest in farming was such that it was confidently prophesied that he would become a farmer. Here he is acting the part. He became, instead, a superintendent of schools.

In this oral history conducted about 1970 Hilda Hedin recounts life with her husband on their farm in Askov, Minnesota during the depression. They spoke Swedish at home and observed mostly religious holidays in the Swedish way.
