Schools in north-central Minnesota (1871-1909). In 1882, three Benedictine sisters opened a mission in Millerville and began teaching in the district school; 88 pupils were registered. However, after ten years of working in crowded and undesirable conditions, the sisters closed the mission. When the parish school, St. Mary's, was built in 1914, the sisters returned. High school classes were added for some time (Saint Benedict's Monastery Archives).

Dena Peterson (Mrs. W.A. Hopkins) stands before the log cabin in which she was born. Her father, Ole Peterson, hosted the 1866 meeting at which Pope County was organized. Originally in Gilchrist Township, the cabin was later moved to the courthouse lawn in Glenwood. The 1930 courthouse building is visible to the right and the county jail building stands behind the cabin.

Haakon Bjornaas (1884-1949), who was a photographer from Otter Tail County, and four friends stand in front of a cabin. All of the men are holding rifles. Haakon stands in the middle. The other men are Sam Cass, Mr. Cass, Mr. Myers of Fergus Falls, and Mr. Shapley of Foxhome.
Harry Prescott and Robert Mars were both associated as workers with the Marshall Wells Hardware firm in Duluth. It is unclear if they began an earlier hardware enterprise together.
