This photograph shows a young Superintendent A.L. Winterquist (Alfred L. Winterquist) and his secretary, L. Thompson, in his first office at the then newly built Lincoln School in Esko. The schools were consolidated shortly after his arrival in Esko in 1919.

A postcard showing three churches of Long Prairie, Minnesota: Presbyterian Church, Methodist Church and Lutheran Church. The Methodist Episcopal Church was built in 1883. It burned in a fire in 1941 but the congregation rallied its financial and spiritual powers to rebuild. The new church was dedicated in April 1942 and cost $18, 000. Written on the back: "Miss Eilsie Schalfer 28 W. 10 St., St. Paul, Minn, Grey Eagle, Minn, Dec. 22. Dear Sister, We got your box, shure (sp.) was glad to hear from you. Say Elsie Ewald dond (sp.) got his ring, diden (sp.) you send it, or it got lost on the way. Anser right away, from your Mother."

The Mesaba Railway ran streetcar service between Hibbing and North Hibbing. This car is posed at the north end of the line in front of the Oliver Hotel on 3rd Avenue in North Hibbing.

Boys dressed in dark suits and girls, all but one in a white dress ar posed in front of the Elbow Lake Opera House with their diplomas. All wear long-stemmed flowers and ribbons on their lapels. A handwritten note identifies it as being "Cleo and Chester's 8th grade Graduation.

Rabbi Deinard died from a heart attack just as temple members were gathering for Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year in Judaism. The year before the temple had changed its name from Shaarai Tov to Temple Israel. Seven years later in 1928 the congregation would build a new temple at the same location under Rabbi Albert Minda.

Twin City Rapid Transit built several experimental lightweight streetcars in an attempt to reduce operating costs. This pair is pictured on Snelling Avenue next to Snelling Shops, where it was built.
Construction of the Kahler Hotel is seen in the background. The Wagoner Block (center foreground) housed the following businesses: the Fischer Cafeteria on the First Street SW side, Emerson Barber Shop and Cigar and Magazine store on the corner, J. H. Wagoner Music Company on the First Avenue SW side, American Railway Express office, Gay Vincent Millinery and J. D. Kelly Real Estate Office. Clarence Stearns Photography Studio was on the second floor. Across the street to the east (right side of photo) is the offices of the Dodge Lumber Company. To the south, across the street (left side of photo) was the Zumbro Hotel, built in 1912. Note parking located in the center of the street. F. H. Gimbert rented roof space for his real estate sign, but his office was two blocks down First Avenue SW at his home.
The Hull-Rust-Mahoning mine established in 1892 in Hibbing is one of the largest open pit iron ore mines in the world, with a 1.5 by 3.5 mile footprint and depths up to 600 feet. It supplied as much as a fourth of all the ore mined in the U. S. during its peak production during WWI and WWII.

Fannie Cohen and her son Sidney (standing on chair) at Cohen's grocery store at 119 S. Wabasha Street in St. Paul. The store opened in 1920 and stayed in business into the 1940s.
