This is a photograph of Rev. Aaron H. Kerr, 1819-1890. He was a Presbyterian minister in St. Peter from 1856 to 1878, except for service as chaplain of the Ninth Minnesota Infantry Regiment from 1862 until 1865. In 1878 he moved to Rochester to serve as steward at the State Hospital until 1890.

John served as pastor in Enderlin, North Dakota in 1916-1918. He discusses his reasons for leaving Norway, how he become a citizen, his church activities, politics, and Norwegian customs.

This is a photograph of Rev. Aaron H. Kerr, a Presbyterian minister in St. Peter, who became the chaplain of Minnesota's Ninth Regiment of Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War.
Rev. William McKinley, 1834-1918. His obituary dated January 13, 1918 [newspaper not identified], reads: "Early Methodist Divine Dies at Home in Winona. Rev. William McKinley, dean of Minnesota Methodism, active as a lecturer, author and divine in various parts of the state since 1854, died late yesterday at his home in Winona, where he has lived since his retirement from active ministry ten years ago. Dr. McKinley was 84 years old and was known prominently throughout the Northwest as an author and preacher. In the Civil War he gained his early experience as a chaplain among the Union soldiers. His first pastorate was at Hastings, where he lived as boy on a farm. Subsequently he was pastor of Hamline Methodist Episcopal church of this city, Central Park church and of First Methodist Episcopal church of Minneapolis, besides serving as district superintendent of the St. Paul district. Marion Daniel Shutter came to Minneapolis in 1881 to serve as minister of Olivet Baptist, now University Baptist Church. He left the denomination after 5 years and became assistant to Dr. James H. Tuttle at the Universalist Church of the Redeemer. On Tuttle's retirement, Shutter became pastor there in 1891 and served until his death in 1939. Shutter was a founder of Unity House, the oldest settlement house in Minneapolis. He aided in the establishment of public playgrounds in Minneapolis and served as the Chairman of the Minneapolis Vice Commission in 1911. He was president of the Minneapolis Charter Commission and edited and contributed to histories of Minneapolis and Minnesota. Booker T. Washington was Principal of Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute. In the letter, sent from the Grand Union Hotel in New York City on October 17, 1901, Washington refers to a previous visit to Reverend Shutter's church. Whether Washington was able to arrange another visit is unknown.

Depicted in this photo is Abraham Mallinen and his family, in of their farmstead, along with their horses. He was the first licensed minister of the Town of Thomson and served as pastor of the Apostolic Lutheran Church of Esko when it was first organized. He settled in Thomson Township with his family in 1883 on his farm, which was located west of the present day Thomson Road and north of the Palkie Road.
