Called the Indian Cemetery or the Roussain Graveyard, this view is from 1927 and shows the second location. The Roussain Graveyard is on Francis Roussain's property. The cemetery was originally located in the right-of-way for the LakeSuperior & Mississippi Railroad construction. The graves were moved to this site just prior to the LS&M's completion from St. Paul to Duluth in 1870.

The living room received the greatest expenditure of money and effort by the designers. Bradstreet outlined the fireplace with Tiffany favrile glass and wrapped the slightly irregular rectangular room with brown-toned jin-di-sugi paneling, with carved sugi floral panels above the fireplace and at intervals around the perimiter. He included his Lotus Table in the setting. The high backed green leather chair is near the bay window with convex pane of glass with a spectacular view of LakeSuperior. In 1904, William Martin Prindle (1861-1944) and Mina Merrill Prindle (1864-1963) chose William Hunt of the firm Palmer, Hall, and Hunt, as the architect of their new Duluth home built in 1905 at 2211 Greysolon Road. When the house was sold to the Minneapolis Art Institute in 1981, the living room and selected items were removed and displayed at the museum.

Aerial view of the Duluth Zoo at Fairmount Park at 71st Avenue West and Grand Avenue dates back to 1923 when West Duluth businessman Bert Onsgard received permission from the City to construct a pen for Billy, his pet deer. The Pittsburgh Steel Company donated a railroad car full of fencing to the project. By 1926 many animals were donated to the zoo by local citizens and businesses. Over the next twenty years, several buildings were constructed and the animal collection grew to include bears, elk, moose, hyenas, leopards and an elephant. During the Depression the WPA built several structures including the bear dens, wolf pens, monkey islands and the elephant house.

This is a view looking northeast to downtown Duluth. Superior Street is visible at the right. The large, dark building in the center of the shot is the Spalding Hotel. The building across from the Spalding with the scaffolding is the Lyceum Theater under construction. The Spalding opened in June of 1889. The 1,500 seat Lyceum opened in August of 1891. They are across Superior Street from each other at Fifth Avenue West. The hotel came down in 1963, the theater in 1966.

The Northern Pacific railroad built this depot building in 1870. It has had various occupants. The address of this restaurant is 13308 One-hundred Thirty Third Avenue West.

Winter view of the remnants of the Whitney Brothers rock crushing business that stand in LakeSuperior off the shore at Canal Park near the Aerial lift bridge. William A. Whitney and E. Harvey Whitney of Superior, Wisconsin, had a sand and gravel processing business. The largest concrete form was the dredging or crushing building. The structure was built in 1919. A tunnel ran from the building to Minnesota Point. There was a conveyor belt and railroad spur adjacent to the concrete building. Sand from the Apostle Islands and gravel from Grand Marais were carried to Duluth on a small vessel named LIMIT. There was also a tug the WILLIAM A. WHITNEY.

The caption on this post card says JOHN A BLATNIK BRIDGE A Foreign Ship enters the Duluth-Superior Harbor Westerly Terminus of the St. Lawrence Seaway. The Port Authority Terminal is shown in the background. This is the Interstate Bridge. The original Interstate toll bridge was built in 1897, property of the Duluth-Superior Bridge Company, a subsidiary of the Great Northern Railroad. It was replaced by the this High Bridge or the Blatnik Bridge as it was renamed in 1971.
