Description:
In 1907 the legislature of Minnesota made provision for a Detention Home in Hennepin county, under the joint direction of the Judge of the District Court and the Board of County Commissioners. Judge John Day Smith, who first stirred public sentiment to the necessity of a home for boys, was assigned to the Juvenile Court work, which also included the location and equipment of the home. Ninety-two acres of land were bought, and a ten-room farm house, barns and outbuildings were soon remodeled, made modern and ready for occupancy in February, 1909, when the first boys arrived. Contents of this year include: board of managers (including photos); maintenance; expenditures; roll of admission/release; justification and organizational structure; equipment, crops, and stock; daily schedule; map; backgrounds, offenses and/or dependency, nativity, and ages of boys; dining room; government; education, discipline, and religious instruction; library; letters; parental demographics; amusements; Boys' Friends (male and female volunteers/benefactors); photos of grounds and of boys at work/play.

Report has the report of the treasurer with all of the company's financial information. Also included is power generation statistics for the various geographical divisions managed by NSP. The Minneapolis Division was supplied by 4 hydroelectric power plants at St. Croix Falls, Coon Rapids, St. Anthony Falls and Wisota. They were supplemented by the Riverside steam station.

The report contains a statement to the stockholders of Northern States Power Company focusing on the divisions of Sioux Falls, Grand Forks, Fargo, Minot, Galena, Stillwater, Minneapolis, St. Paul and Mankato Faribault serving Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, and the Dakotas. The report includes consolidated earnings statement, balance sheets, and lists the names of the officers and directors. A summary of electrical power plant equipment with a map of the territory served by Northern States Power and narrative descriptions of the physical properties is also included.

Report shows structure of mutual benefit association, income, disbursements and membership. The Influenza epidemic affected the association and an additional assessment of one month's dues was required from members for additional expenses. There was a $10,101.13 deficit at the end of January 1919. The biggest increase in expenses was for death payouts, going from $6699.50 in 1917 to $11900 in 1918. Twenty-eight deaths were listed for 1918 as opposed to 13 in 1917.
