The Lyle Village School District 70 is located within the city's limits. County Road 6 crosses Federal Highway 218 that travels along side the rails shared by both the Chicago Great Western Railroad and the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad between Austin and Lyle. The Illinois Central Railroad enters Lyle from the west and travels southward into Iowa. Standard Atlas of Mower County, Minnesota, 1896. George A. Ogle and Company, Publishers and Engravers, created this book, including a plat book of the villages, cities and townships of the county, a map of the State of Minnesota, a map of the United States and of the World. There is a farmers directory, illustrations of early residents, a business directory and general information about the county. An analysis of the system of U.S. Land Surveys, a digest of the system of Civil Government, and a chronological calendar of events from medieval times to 1896.
Official highway trail registration form 116, recording and approving the highway trail that started from "St. Paul, and thence via Counties of Dakota, Rice, Steele, Freeborn, Mower to Lyle and terminating at Lyle, Minnesota + St. Louis, Mo." and known as Red Ball Route. Cities and villages on Red Ball Route include Rosemount, Farmington, Northfield, Dundas, Faribault, Medford, Owatonna, Blooming Prairie, Austin and Lyle. Application was submitted by the Red Ball Route Association on the 2nd day of August 1917 and approved on the 8th day of August 1917. Form features an image of a trail marker that is a red circle. It is signed by Commissioner of Highways Charles M. Babcock.
