A postcard showing the exterior of the Fairmont M. E. church. Fairmont Methodist Episcopal Church was built in 1878. The lot was purchased in 1877 from A. L. Ward for the sum of $100, with the stipulation that unless it was used for a church it would revert to its original owner. In 1878 a neat little frame church was built. In 1894 a second frame building, with a seating capacity of 650 people, was built. $4000 of the $7000 building debt was paid before the dedication and at the dedication service the remaining $3000 was raised.
