Parade of members of the Toboggan and Snowshoe Association in their white hats and coats along Superior Street in downtown Duluth. The orignal image was taken February 22, 1886 by Carl Thiel and Edward H. Foster and was later copied by Hugh McKenzie.

Fitzsimmons-Derrig Company was the business of Charles Fitzsimmons and Andrew A. Warfield. The wholesale fruit business began in 1890 as George W. Martin and Co. with Charles Fitzsimmons as an employee. In 1891 it was Martin, Fitzsimmons and Warfield. In 1892-1893 Fitzsimmons and Warfield, located at 126 West Michigan Street the address of this image. Later Fitzsimmons Derrig and Palmer. Some of the names on the wagons indicate prior partnerships as the company's ownership evolved.

Thirty-one page government document, beginning with a letter form the Secretary of War, in response to Senate resolution of April 12, 1892, relative to the proceedings of the board of officers convened to consider the construction of a bridge in Duluth. This document is discussing placing a bridge over the Duluth ship canal where a bridge has never existed. The document uses the language "Aerial Lift Bridge" which must have been a design under consideration. In fact, the Aerial Ferry Bridge, or Aerial Transporter Bridge was the initial bridge constructed in 1904-1905. It wasn't until 1929 that the first bridge was remodeled with a lift span.

Central Hillside; Duluth Central High school building was the talk of the country when it was built in 1891-1892; architects Palmer and Hall of Duluth based the school's design on Richardson's Romanesque Allegheny Courthouse in Pittsburgh; the carving was done by Duluthian O. George Thrana (1872-1939), a Norwegian master stone carver; the main tower is 230 feet tall; Westminster chimes were installed; houses in background; people on steps; Central is used as the Duluth school district 709's administrative building

Built as a Masonic Temple in 1889, Second Avenue East and Superior Street, it was also a theater. The top floors and the iconic onion bulb feature of the Temple Opera building were removed in the 1940s. The avenue entrance was removed. The truncated building still stands.
