Exterior view of the American House. This was built as a hotel, but never housed any guests. It became one of the first buildings on the Carleton College campus.

Young Men from the rural areas, out of town or from foreign countries always found a welcome smile and a clean place to sleep at the YMCA.

Downtown Moorhead is visible in the distance; in the foreground at right can be seen the Peter Heinrich Bottling Works with an ad for Joseph Schlitz Beer painted on its side.
