Construction of the Lake Zumbro Hydroelectric Power Plant dam began in this area of the Zumbro River in 1917. The structure was designed by noted hydroelectric engineer, Hugh Lincoln Cooper. The dam, completed in 1919, is owned by Rochester Public Utilities.

Women's organization, the Woodstock Guards of Loyalty, posing in uniform on the steps of the Pipestone County Courthouse. William Perry and his family ran Lake Johanna beach facilities in present-day Arden Hills, consisting of concessions, boat and swimsuit rental, dance pavilion, and picnic area. Perry was the son of Mounds View Township founder Charles Perry.
Commercial photographers William Opie (Langdon, North Dakota) and Paul Aubin (Hibbing, Minnesota) attended the annual convention for the Photographers' Association of America, which was taking place in St. Paul that year. It's known that a trip to Minnehaha Falls was part of the delegates' itinerary.
