The "North West" with passengers aboard deck was built in Cleveland, Ohio in 1894 by the Globe Shipbuilding Company but operated by the Northern Steamship Company of Buffalo, New York until 1911 when she burned.

An addition is being built to the Cook Home. Cook Home began as the county almshouse, poor farm, and tuberculosis sanatorium in the 1880s. It grew and its name was changed over the decades.

This photograph was taken probably at Superior Street between Eight and Ninth avenues east. The building in the background is First Baptist Church at 830 East First Street. Duluth police department's first paddy wagon three men and a uniformed policeman.
