John Lauritzen came to Fergus Falls in 1887 and was in charge of the construction of the State Hospital and was responsible for many fine brick buildings in Fergus Falls and the surrounding area.

Portrait of Enos Barbeau [1840-1908]. Born in Quebec, Canada he worked in the fur trade. He came to Ottertail City in 1867 and moved to Fergus Falls in 1875. In Fergus Falls he engaged in the manufacture of lime, a business he ran for 25 years.
Henry S. Schumacher appears at left and Louis Schumacher appears at right in front of their carpet and gentlemen's furnishings store in St. Peter. The store was located on the north side of Park Row, between Minnesota Avenue and Third street.
The Merchants Carnival featured local Rochester businesses in an early ""trade show"" format. Employees from each business dressed in costumes decorated with items from the business.
Maude Elliott is wearing a costume representing the Olmsted County Democrat at the Merchants Carnival. This newspaper was published by Elliott and Son. Her dress is decorated with various paper items.

The first water and electric plant in Worthington was located on the shores of Lake Okabena. A typewritten sticker on the back of the photograph reads: "Worthington, Minnesota First Water and Electric Plant. (Mrs. Anna Cory) Water system installed in 1891 Electric plant installed in 1895 First lights December 10. First patronage 300 lights."
Portrait of John W. Mason [1846-1927]. John Mason was born in La Peer, Michigan. With his parents, he came to Minnesota shortly before the Civil War. He studied law under G. B. Cooley, being admitted to the bar in 1871. He arrived in Fergus Falls on June 7, 1871 and soon became city attorney.

Portrait of J. W. Earl. Mr. Earl was a pioneer implement dealer, member of the firm Earl and Hansen and an active member of the Methodist church. He was also the mayor of Fergus Falls from 1889-1891.
Published by the Duluth Missabe and Iron Range Railroad in a series of images taken by George A. Nelson. This image shows the passenger and coal docks. Misidentified as the first boat load of rails as the Ossifrage was not built until 1886 and the coal docks were not built until 1888. Therefore this photo dates to around 1889.

Opened in 1882 by the Minnesota Mining Company, Breitung pit was part of the first iron ore mine on the Vermillion Range. Ore from this pit made up the first commercial shipment of Minnesota Iron Ore out of the Agate Bay ore docks, Two Harbors, Minnesota July 31, 1884.
