This is an original plat of Olmsted County with many handwritten notes and drawings showing early Minnesota settlers, farmers and other town landscape features. This map is the earliest documentation we have found in our collection of the farms, towns, and topography of Olmsted County, Minnesota.
A horse-drawn wagon is shown heading north on Minnesota Avenue in St. Peter. From left to right, the buildings shown are the Cunningham Hotel, the Gorman building, and the Presbyterian Church. Mulberry street is between the Gorman building and the church.

A view of the first railroad bridge across the Minnesota River at St. Peter. It served the Winona and St. Peter Railroad. This wooden bridge was located between Kasota and the St. Peter State Hospital. The image is a reproduction made from an earlier photograph.

Dated the fourth day of March in 1871, this bond was issued by the Borough of Saint Peter in order to raise money to finance the construction of the Winona & Saint Peter Railroad. The value of the bond at maturity was five hundreds dollars. The railroad crossed the Minnesota River and entered Nicollet County near the site of the St. Peter State Hospital in May of 1871. The railroad eventually extended through St. Peter, Traverse, Oshawa, Nicollet, and Courtland in Nicollet County before it crossed the Minnesota River into Brown County.

Landscape view; from a series by M. Nowack; view checked on card is: "view of Suspension Bridge; " bridge completed about 1876. This is the second bridge over the Mississippi River. The third replacement bridge was constructed from 1886-1888.

The banks of the Zumbro River are spanned by a bridge at Oronoco. This bridge, built about 1876, was the second bridge at this location and was later replaced by a concrete bridge in 1918.
View is to the north from the Northern Pacific Railway bridge. The U.S. Government dredge "Unser Fritz" is moored in the middle of the Red River. Mud scows float just beyond. In the distance the Alsop Line's steamboat "Pluck" and two barges are tied up to the Fargo, Dakota Territory river bank just below the Grandin Line's grain elevator A. In the far distance is Fargo's Union Elevator. In the foreground at left can be seen a temporary wagon bridge; in the distance at right is Moorhead's Point neighborhood.
Stereoview to west from the Moorhead side of the Red River at the Steamboat Levee. The Alsop Brothers' single decked sidewheel "Pluck" is tied up to opposite bank facing upstream. The railroad spur line and Alsop Line Warehouse is further up bank just beyond; also visible is Grandin Lines' grain elevator on Fargo bank at right.
The view is to the south from the Moorhead side of the Red River looking toward the Northern Pacific Railway bridge; The steamboat Pluck is tied up on the Fargo, Dakota Territory side of the Red River; two barges heavily loaded with agricultural equipment and shingles are tied alongside, one is named Winnipeg; a flatboat partially loaded with lumber is along the Moorhead bank in the foreground. In the distance on the Fargo bank workmen load lumber from railroad cars onto flatboats. Beyond, a temporary wagon bridge spans the river beneath the Northern Pacific railroad bridge. Beyond the railroad bridge is the Moorhead Manufacturing Company Flour Mill, at extreme right is partially visible the Alsop Line's Warehouse.

This photograph shows the original wooden Winona and St. Peter Railroad bridge near the St. Peter State Hospital. The view appears to be toward the community of Kasota in Le Sueur County. This bridge was replaced by an iron bridge in 1879.
This view of the original Winona and St. Peter Railroad bridge over the Minnesota River that was completed in 1871 appears to look toward Kasota from a location near the St. Peter State Hospital. The bridge was replaced about 1879 by a metal one. Some of the stone supports for the new bridge can be seen to the right of the wooden bridge.

The paddlewheel steamboat "J. B. Bassett" was a Mississippi "Wanagun" which was a cook boat that followed the log drives. Here the Bassett is moored at the landing on the Rum River.

Image of people lined up on dock and outside deck of Ossifrage. Large dock owned by the Weiland Family, a prosperous family that owned and operated a lumber company out of Beaver Bay (1860-1883). Steam ships would tie up to the Weiland dock, bringing passengers and supplies to the town.
Mr. and Mrs. John Martinson and their daughter, Mary, in a sleigh going south on Minnesota Avenue in St. Peter. The Stark and Davis store is on the southwest corner of the intersection of Minnesota Avenue and Grace street. Joseph Mason's Hardware store is at right.
