This postcard shows members of the Redmen Band in St. Peter during the 4th of July celebration in 1908. The band members are facing west on Nassau street at its intersection with Minnesota Avenue.
The "Governor John A. Johnsonn Grand March" was created in Johnson's honor. He died during his third term in 1909. Johnson was born in Nicollet County, and was a partner in running the St. Peter Herald newspaper prior to his election as governor.

This photograph shows the Marcato Orchestra, which was led by James Welsh of St. Peter. The five members were all from the Norseland Band. They included cornet players Julius Annexstad and Bennett Johnson, James Welsh on the sousaphone, saxophone player Raymond Johnson, and Julius Wagner on trombone.
Uniformed members of the Nicollet Germania Band pose outside. The band was organized in the latter 1880s by Frank Hackbarth, and lasted until 1925. It was a very active band, playing for many social events.
