Dated the fourth day of March in 1871, this bond was issued by the Borough of Saint Peter in order to raise money to finance the construction of the Winona & Saint Peter Railroad. The value of the bond at maturity was five hundreds dollars. The railroad crossed the Minnesota River and entered Nicollet County near the site of the St. Peter State Hospital in May of 1871. The railroad eventually extended through St. Peter, Traverse, Oshawa, Nicollet, and Courtland in Nicollet County before it crossed the Minnesota River into Brown County.
The photograph album, donated to Minnesota Department of Transportation, contains 27 pages of 143 black and white photos from about 1940-1948. Most photos show James E. Chandler and his colleagues doing land surveying and paving work. Some are personal photos with families and friends. James E. Chandler was a Minnesota Highway Department employee.

The Influenza epidemic affected the association and an additional assessment of one month's dues was required from members for additional expenses. There was a $10,101.13 deficit at the end of January 1919. The biggest increase in expenses was for death payouts, going from $6699.50 in 1917 to $11900 in 1918. Twenty-eight deaths were listed for 1918 as opposed to 13 in 1917.
