Consolidated Elevator Company built elevators B, C, D 1884 with a 1.2 million bushel capacity, and G from 1878-1945 in the Duluth harbor parallel to downtown Duluth and perpendicular to Rice's Point.

Construction of the F. A. Patrick building began in March 1906 at the corner of Fifth Avenue South and Commerce Street. The woolen mill and garment factory had nation-wide customers by 1916.

Clyde Iron Works Incorporated manufactured heavy equipment from 1889 in Duluth. This is the manufacturing plant at Twenty-ninth Avenue West and Michigan Street from 1908. It had sales warehouses in several cities, including New York, Chicago, Savanna, and New Orleans. The company initial manufactured logging tools and eventually built cranes that could handle up to 2,000 tons. Its initial acclaimed machine was the McGiffert Log Loader first sold in 1902 whose inventor became a company officer.

In 1934, 5707 Grand Avenue was home to the Anna Clark Shoe Store, including shoe repairing service by Reinhold Mattson, barber Alf J. Wahlstrom was also at this address.

Bridgeman-Russell was founded in 1888, and incorporated in 1903 by Duluthian Henry Bridgeman. Newell Francis Russell was born on a farm near Rush City, Minnesota in 1869. There were a number of Bridgeman ice cream stores in Duluth. This building is at 16 West First Street.

Blair Johnsen, resident manager at the Meridian Apartments, raises his arms as he rolls through a paper banner at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Meridian Apartments. The 39-unit Meridian Apartments, developed by United Cerebral Palsy, opened in Duluth in 1978 and offered barrier-free living for people with disabilities.

Built in 1919 as a home for pregnant young girls to live, attend school, and train for parenting at 1230 East Ninth Street until the child was born. The Bethel Home ceased these services in the early 1970s.

Proctor, near Duluth, was the home base of the Duluth Missabi and Iron Range Railway and its predecessor roads the D&IR and the DM&N. Proctor was created in 1892 when the railroad was extending into Duluth and needed large flat areas. It was the largest such yard in the world. In 1894, the village was incorporated as Proctorknott after J. Proctor Knott, a U.S. Congressman from Kentucky who delivered a satirical speech ridiculing Duluth. The name was later shortened to Proctor. Thousands of cars were handled daily.

At the intersection of Lake Avenue and Superior Street this fire equipment collided with a streetcar. One fireman, Archie Finlayson, was killed, and the streetcar driver was charged with failure to give right of way. The two-story building in the background is the Freimuth's store under construction.
