Description:: Sydney R. Montague, Arctic explorer and adventurer, spoke at Lincoln School. The state 4-H Club leader asked the Thomson High School band to perform on the nation-wide radio network of the National Farm and Home Hour. Mr. H. L. Lawrenz, teacher and leader of FFA, Farmers' Club, as well as 4-H Club, took a job as county agent for Dakota County. Superintendent A. L. Winterquist wrote about the Red Cross and promoted it. Quiet was urged in the library, and library helpers, called pages, were named. The senior class motored to Carlton to attend an actual court trial. The honor roll was announced by Principal L. B. Olson. On October 21st the school had perfect attendance, for the first time during the school year. The GAA had interclass baseball tournaments. Twenty six girls walked to Cloquet to see a show, via the paper mill dam. Millard Olson went to the national FFA Convention at Kansas City representing Minnesota. Basketball practice began. The first potato show was given by the Thomson Chapter of the FFA in the Lincoln School gymnasium, to commemorate Minnesota Potato Week. An amateur variety program was given at the Co-Op Auditorium in Cloquet. Former high school student George Kivisto played string bass in the Duluth symphony orchestra. Registration for evening cooking and sewing classes at Lincoln School was held. News of the comings and goings of residents was mentioned.

Description:: A former member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Arctic explorer, Sydney R. Montague, was scheduled to speak at the Lincoln School. Constitution Day was observed by the social problems class giving a program with student speeches as well as an address by Superintendent A. L. Winterquist. There was an article about the reorganization of the Spotlight and the beginning of a commercial department at the school. Also included were high school news items, which included news about the senior class rings as well as the agriculture class and an FFA field trip centered around potatoes. The school bought Keystone Stereographs and stereograph pictures to use as study helps. It was noted that many boys were out of school to harvest potatoes. The 4-H Club made plans to give a musical. The FFA grew to 68 members. The Girls Athletic Association held a meeting a wiener roast at their outing to Jay Cooke Park. A letter of appreciation to Mr. L. B. Olson and the band for the performance at the Labor Day activities was printed. In community news, a Farmers' Club meeting was set. A rural electrical committee meeting was to be held at Washington School.

The high school band sponsored Gordon's Educated Pets Animal Circus at Lincoln School. There was an assembly program for Fire Prevention Week. An adult agricultural evening class was organized for men and women, to be held at Lincoln School. Mr. L. B. Olson spoke at the Carlton County Teachers' Convention held at Carlton on how to develop an interest in music by students, using a Teeny-Weeny Band and a Melody Band. A music appreciation club known as the Better Music League for junior high school students was organized in the Lincoln School. Girls' fall baseball was in session, with interclass games being played. A senior 4-H Club meeting was held at Lincoln School, as well as a junior 4-H Club meeting held at Washington School. The FFA meeting and program was held at Lincoln School. An executive council to plan the activities for the Thomson 4-H Club was organized. There was a humorous column about mice in the school's classrooms.

Three people would attend a meeting at Cloquet High School to assist in the formation of a Girls' 4-H Club. A speculative article about a forthcoming basketball game of Thomson against Duluth Central High School was included.

Only six GAA girls showed up for a hike the day after Thanksgiving from Harney's Corner to Cloquet to see a movie at the Leb Theatre, even though admission was only a broken toy. Morgan Park's basketball team beat Thomson. The O'Brian Oilers basketball team of Superior Wisconsin beat the Thomson Future Farmer's team at the Washington School gymnasium. The P.T.A. Chorus, directed by L. B. Olson, presented a Christmas program at Lincoln School. The Forbay Schoolhouse was sold to Mr. Ed Kinnunen, who intended to use the materials in the construction of a new home.Thomson Township held its second annual Farmers' and Businessmen's Good Will Banquet at the Washington School.

Description:: This Christmas edition began with a large editorial about the Christmas Spirit, noting that many children of unemployed parents would not be visited by Santa Claus. The sophomore class planned a skating party at Pinehurst Park in Cloquet. A Christmas Assembly included the presentation of a cantata by the PTA Chorus, as well as a talk by Superintendent A. L. Winterquist. Members of the stenography II class took instructions in making mimeographs, using a mimeoscope to make their own Christmas cards. There was a large article detailing the Christmas program to be given in the Washington auditorium, consisting of a cantata and a pantomime with various nations represented and performers listed. Articles by several students about Christmas were included. The agriculture class went on a field trip to the Land O-Lakes cold storage plant with the eighth grade. In basketball, Thomson won their second conference victory by beating Cromwell High School. Both the junior and senior Thomson basketball teams beat Wrenshall; Thomson beat Carlton.

The senior class had an outing at Jay Cooke Park. The new industrial training teacher was introduced. Superintendent A. L. Winterquist wrote a page about extra curricular activities. The orchestra was reorganized by Mr. L. B. Olson. About 200 students enrolled as probationary members of the Thomson Township 4-H Club at the meeting. Description:: Headlining the paper was the dedication of the new gymnasium in the Lincoln School. Another article told of the FFA sponsoring their second annual potato show in connection with Minnesota Potato Week. As the final festivity of Potato Week, the Duluth Chamber of Commerce sponsored a program at the Northeast Experimental Station, part of which was to crown a Potato Queen of the Arrowhead. Virginia Anderson, 4-H Club member, was set to speak at the National Farm and Home Hour radio broadcast. In conjunction with the national presidential election, an election was to be held at the Lincoln School. The Home Economics I class made aprons out of flour sacks. Students were urged to try out to be cheerleaders. The high school band won honorable mention at the Northwest Music Festival. Due to cold and snowy weather, no gym classes could be held outside. The high school boys' basketball schedule was given.

The annual FFA and Parents' Banquet was held at the Lincoln Gymnasium. Thomson took second place in a three school track meet held at the Cloquet Bowl. An entire page was devoted to the PTA meeting Creed. Also included was a senior class index, with the nicknames, favorite pastimes, and future occupations of students listed. Due to high snow banks and barely passable roads, cessation of after school extra curricular activities was made necessary. Educational films were shown during lunch hour at both Washington and Lincoln Schools, sanctioned by the school board at a special meeting. Superintendent A. L. Winterquist wrote an article about the basketball tournament. Commercial students did well in dictation and typing speed tests. The advanced home economics class took a field trip to view an exhibit of wood etchings and carvings brought from New York to the Cloquet High School. Washington's birthday was observed by a program at which Cloquet attorney Mr. Evelyn McKenna spoke and Lauren Hiukka played his accordion. A page was dedicated to information about pottery and glassware. Evening classes in home economics were underway, with ten women studying clothing selection and dressmaking. Eighteen men were taking evening classes in industrial and agriculture class. Floodwood's basketball beat Thomson, but Thomson's basketball team beat Meadowlands and McGregor as well as Cromwell's basketball team.

Description:: This Thanksgiving edition included an extensive article by Superintendent A. L. Winterquist about tuberculosis prevention and detection by having either a Mantoux test, chest x-ray, or else a sputum test to detect the disease. Cheer leaders were elected by the junior and senior high school students. The serving of hot lunches by the 4-H Club was deemed to be a success and was continued. Myra Ropponen, a second year post graduate student at Lincoln High, got a temporary position as a stenographer to Attorney Leibermann at Carlton. Two new students enrolled in the first year post graduate class, and both took a commercial course. Rehearsals began for a three part high school girls' glee club cantata to be presented for Christmas at the Washington School. The basketball game against Duluth Central High School was cancelled, due to the ineligibility of Lincoln boys with their failing grades to play basketball. A bunco party, and a meeting by the G.A.A., and a planning session to sponsor a school pep rally were listed. The FFA elected officers in their meeting. Mr. L. B. Olson organized a vocal octet. The Thomson boys' basketball team played against Morgan Parks boys' basketball team. News of the community was given, including the purchase of a ten ton Walters four wheel drive truck and a ton and a half snowplow. A lengthy article was devoted to the young violin prodigy, Robert Basso. Following it was an article noting the singing of Mr. L. B. Olson in a large choir directed by Dr. F. Melius Christianson of St. Olaf's College Choir at the Duluth Armory.

The FFA sponsored a Finnish movie, with proceeds to be divided between the FFA Chapter and the Finnish Benefit Fund at the Lincoln School. FFA boys worked on speeches for the public speaking contest. The Esko FFA chapter published the district news letter.

Nearly 500 people attended a mass meeting held at the Lincoln School to discuss the Finnish situation, with Onnie Laine, Finnish radio commentator over radio station WEBC, being the main speaker. Donations made for lunch amounted to $156.00. Plans were made for another house-to-house canvas for funds to be sent directly to the Finnish government rather than the Red Cross. The Boy Scouts took a ski hike to a ski slide, then to the railroad, to Sippas Hill and down it, and then followed an old Native American trail to the Boy Scout camping grounds. The investiture ceremony for the new Boy Scout Troop 197 was held at the Thomson Township PTA meeting. Superintendent A. L. Winterquist, Mr. Hauge, and Mr. Esko attended a meeting at Two Harbors to plan for the music festival to be held there this spring. The Thomson Tommies basketball team beat Cromwell, but the Carlton Bulldogs basketball team beat the Tommies.

GAA news was given as well as Boy Scout news. In 4-H news items, it was noted that the 4-H Club decided to sell bars at the FFA basketball game and donate the proceeds to the Finnish Relief. The club voted to send records of their meetings to the Duluth News Tribune and Herald. The Esko FFA chapter edited the third volume of the District FFA Newsletter, with typing and mimeographing done by the commercial classes at Esko. Three FFA boys and their instructor, Mr. Fischer, went to Cook, Minnesota to purchase 200 pounds of seed for the FFA farm practice program from the Arrowhead Seed Growers Association. The Esko FFA basketball team beat the Aurora Black Hawks in a benefit game at the Lincoln gymnasium, with the proceeds from the game given to the Finnish Red cross. The Thomson Township Tommies beat the Wrenshall Wrens in basketball, and remained undefeated in the Polar Bear League.

At that time it was noted that there were two schools, one being the only state accredited rural high school, two post offices, nine service stations, two garages, three grocery stores, a creamery, a sewage disposal system, a highway department weighing station, rural electrification, and two larger cities within the radius of fifteen miles. Superintendent A. L. Winterquist wrote an editorial about the Farmers' Club and high school agriculture departments' Goodwill Banquet. Cheerleaders were chosen at the first Pep meeting. The PTA presented a play. Janitor Mr. Palkie was interviewed. A column gave information about what some alumni were doing: Ralph Peterson earned an appointment to West Point Military Academy. Robert Tan was employed by an airplane factory in Maryland. Lauri Hatinen was working in an airplane factory in Hartford, Connecticut. Ethel Palkie and Bertha Ropponen were preparing to take a Civil Service Examination. A chart showed the progress of Christmas Seal sales by ninth graders, as well as seventh graders. A film on tuberculosis and how to avoid it was shown to junior high school students. The FFA sold subscriptions for the Poultry Tribune magazine, as well as garden seeds.

A Who's Who was given for the ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade students. Superintendent A. L. Winterquist wrote about summer vacation. Students who received awards enjoyed the activities banquet given for them at the Medical Arts dining room in Duluth. The Boy Scouts enjoyed an overnight camping trip up the North Shore, to Two Island River and Lax Lake. The senior class was entertained by Superintendent and Mrs. Winterquist at their home. The junior and senior banquet was held at the Cascade Hotel in Duluth. The physics class took a field trip to the power plant of the Minnesota Power and Light Company at Forbay and Fon Du Lac, and rode the gas car to the lower dam and its plant with another large generator. Sophomores wrote histories of Finland in modern history class. The GAA planned a roller skating party at Maki's Rink. The baseball season began as soon as school was out, and the Esko Yankees resumed play. Esko took fourth place in the district track meet.

Sears Roebuck & Company sent an exhibit to display in the home economics room of all types of stockings. The sophomore class collected waste paper as a part of a patriotic paper drive. Other news reported on a former student who joined the Marines as well as people sailing on the frozen Thomson Lake in ice boats. Activities and projects in the industrial class and shop class were given. The full Esko band was set to play at all home games. Part of the band played at the Farmers' Banquet. The band played on radio station KDAL, and Isaac Esko, Leslie Knutti, and cheerleader Alice Sunnarborg were interviewed on the air. Comings and goings of residents were given as well as a letter from Army Private Melvin Hiukka. Over 350 attended the eighth annual Thomson Township Farmers' Banquet. Former Esko student Mildred Bergstedt wrote a letter about working for the Labor Department in Washington D.C. Twenty five seventh graders joined the American Junior Red Cross. The junior high classes were selling Christmas Seals. In FFA news, many agriculture students completed their farm practices summaries in preparation for the Agricultural Farm Practice Contest. Students selected their agricultural related topics to compete in the District FFA Public Speaking Contest to be held at Meadowlands. Charles Johnson won a radio raffled by the Esko FFA at the Cromwell Esko basketball game. Esko FFA placed second in the chapter meeting conducting contest. Despite plans to organize an FFA basketball team composed of active FFA members, it was not possible because of a lack of players. In 4-H Club news, Christmas baskets were prepared. Former 4-H President, Ainie Maki, won a trip to the National Livestock Convention in Chicago. The Esko-mos beat Floodwood in basketball, as well as the Carlton Bulldogs and the Grand Marais Northmen and McGregor. Lauri Kortesmaki was the first to organize a physical fitness program in Carlton County, and was the county supervisor of it. The program was nation-wide in scope, since half of draftees were rejected because of poor physical fitness. The Pep Club adopted the name of the Esko-Mos.

Winterquist wrote an editorial urging high school courses to be more practical and less college preparatory in nature. Rules of the rink were given for ice skaters. Residents of Esko had frequent sewing bees to make clothing and materials to be shipped to Finland via the Finnish Consulate in New York. Student Helmi Kivisto was improving, according to a classmate who visited her. Five FFA boys submitted project reports in competition for an FFA award. The local FFA chapter sold garden and flower seeds to raise funds for the annual Parents' and Sons' banquet. The Thomson Tommies beat Meadowlands in basketball. Esko's FFA basketball team hosted the amateur tournament, competing for the chance to go to the State Amateur Championship playoffs at Minneapolis. The teams were Carlton, Columbia Clothing of Duluth, Murphy Finance of Duluth, Harbor Inn of Two Harbors, Merchants of Two Harbors, Cloquet, Aurora, and Hill City. A page was devoted to Polar League Standings as well as individual free throw averages.

The PTA observed Founders' Day. Superintendent A L. Winterquist promoted defense education for those from ages 17 to 25, to prepare them for employment in the national defense industries. High school principal Herbert Knuti was interviewed. Pointers for taking good photographs were listed. Moonshiner's Hill was a favorite spot for winter sports. Many junior high students were absent with influenza, including a teacher. The Industrial Arts department bought new equipment to be used in the national defense and industrial arts classes. The Thomson Tommies beat Cromwell in basketball, but were beaten by Wrenshall. The eighth district AAA basketball tournament was held at the Lincoln gymnasium and hosted by the Esko FFA. A table with free throw averages for players was given.

Description:: The annual "The Bugle" was stenciled, mimeographed, and put together by our Washington principal, teachers, and pupils. Thirty four students were going to attend Lincoln Junior High School in the fall, leaving Washington School. The sixth grade went on a science field trip during which a student hurt his head bending over to catch a crayfish and the teacher, Mr. Waterhouse, tore his trousers going through a barbed wire fence. Information was given about eight faculty members, and short editorials were written by Principal E.H. Waterhouse and Superintendent A. L. Winterquist, as well as students. A page about the personalities of the sixth grade students was given. The Washington Basketball team members were listed. Summer plans for travel were given for quite a few students. Information was given about various activities at Washington, including the mixed chorus, orchestra, stringed ensemble, and rhythm band. The basketball team did well. The grades carried out an art program of weaving, painting, drawing, bottle dipping, clay modeling, soap carving, and pencil drawing, with some projects to be exhibited at the Annual Thomson Township Fair.

Description:: Students of vocational agriculture were selected by their agricultural instructor to represent Thomson Township at the High School Agriculture Students' Livestock Judging Contest and third annual Tri-State Invitational meet to be held at the Northeast Experiment Station. The band presented a big minstrel show at Lincoln School. The Thomson Township High School Band competed in the Battle of Bands at the Duluth Amphitheater, sponsored by the Duluth Chamber of Commerce. Superintendent A. L. Winterquist answered the question of why a student should go to high school. An "In Memoriam" item honored and memorialized Raymond Daniel Tan. In Washington school news items an article noted that Washington grade children were brushing their teeth with toothpaste sent by Kolynos Company to the students. Community news items were given, one of which noted that one of the oldest settlers here, Mr. Emanuel Himango, died at his home. Basketball practice started for the Thomson Tommies, with inter-mural football games were played. The Red Cross organization was the theme of the monthly PTA meeting.

Description:: Basketball Season closed, with four seniors playing their last game. The Thomson High School band performed a concert. They had played for every home basketball game. Student Kirk Otto wrote about the trip to a state safety conference in Minneapolis with Superintendent A. L. Winterquist and Sheriff Luukkonen. Mr. B. M. Winkleman of the Duluth Business University gave a talk to the student body, sponsored by the commercial students. Services conducted in English were advertised at the Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church. Superintendent A. L. Winterquist wrote an article promoting the library. Over a page was devoted to pastry, with several recipes given. A page was devoted to a summary of the twenty sixth district basketball tournament, where Thomson-Carlton were subdistrict champs. Among news items was an item noting that basketball members were dinner guests at the Lincoln Teacherage.

Description:: The annual junior-senior banquet was held at Glass Block Tea Rooms, followed by a party at Lincoln School. Thomson 4-H Club won honors in the 4-H Music and Play Contest. Lincoln School held a concert by Don Piedro's Spanish Sparklets which had been postponed two weeks prior by inclement weather. One afternoon it appeared that there might be a dust storm. Notice was given that the Bethel English Lutheran Church would hold services on Sunday at Lincoln School. Miss Edna Tan of the Washington School faculty was hospitalized at Raiter Hospital. Duluth State Teachers' College A Capella Choir presented a concert. Arbor Day was observed with an assembly, program, and tree plantings. At an all high school mixer the hall of fame students were elected. Washington School news was given, including a note that Harvey Karjala brought slate and stone from Thomson, in conjunction with a geography class. A page was devoted to table etiquette. The high school track team was preparing for the District Track Meet to be held at Cloquet. Esko groups, including the Thomson High School Band and Glee Club, entered the Tri-County Music Festival at Moose Lake.

The annual 4-H Achievement Day was to be held at Lincoln School in Esko. English church services were going to beheld at the Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church on Friday, with a special welcome extended to Lincoln and Washington students. A carnival queen would be elected in the FFA Circus Queen contest. The senior play was presented at the Scanlon School. The agricultural classes, both male and female, toured the Northeastern Experiment Station. Superintendent A. L. Winterquist wrote an article about the importance of history classes. One page was devoted to the origin of costume accessories. Items of news from the 4-H Cubs were given, including the announcement of the 4-H Music and one-act play contest.

Description:: Helen Tan was selected to represent Carlton County as the Potato Queen. Fans of the Elk's charity football classic were proud of the performance of the high school band before the game and between halves The Thomson 4-H Club won second prize on a state fair booth about health, and seven members won trips to the state fair. Constitution Day was observed at an assembly at which Cloquet attorney Evelyn McKenna spoke. A column was devoted to activities of sixteen alumni. The high school band competed at the State Fair and placed eighth. Superintendent A. L. Winterquist wrote about the 1937-1938 school year. An article by student Clarence Carlson about the FFA was given. William Wainio and Ray Maki wrote an article about their trip to the North East Experiment Station. Washington School, junior high school, 4-H news, and GAA news was given, including the first outing of the GAA to Hay Creek for a cheese and bacon roast. In FFA news, Thomsomites were on the potato show committee, who decided to hold the grain and potato show at the Cloquet Civic Center. A traveling musician, Orsen Sime, entertained at Lincoln School, with novelty musical instruments. The busy band season included the band playing during the past summer at a variety of places to raise money for their trip to compete at the State Fair. To save money they slept in tents set up on the camp grounds, warmed by straw bales. The PTA ladies made all their food.

Description:: The blind orchestra from the Duluth Lighthouse for the Blind was judged to be the best act of the third annual GAA variety show. The school band, under direction of L. B. Olson, played at the Sixth Annual Northeastern Minnesota Junior Livestock Show. The band paraded from the Duluth City Hall at Fifth Avenue West, to London Road, and to the Curling Club. The junior class enjoyed an outing to a log cabin at Jay Cooke Park. New library helpers, called pages, started work. The band entertained at the Arrowhead Cooperative Creamery meeting. Superintendent A. L. Winterquist wrote about safety in an article titled, "The Matter of Life and Death." Junior high school news was given, including a note about many students being absent because of the busy potato picking season. The Thomson Townships Farmers' Club met. The junior and senior bands were organized, with officers being elected. Community news items were given about the comings and goings of Township residents. The junior football team was defeated by the senior team. Candidates for the boys basketball team had a physical examination, prior to the start of basketball practice.

Description:: An attorney from Cloquet was the guest speaker at the Armistice Day program. Thomson student Beatrice Lehto played several accordion solos on the radio broadcast of the Finnish Program sponsored by Occident Flour. Mildred Bergstedt was selected by the state 4-H club leader to give a talk about 4-H Clubs on radio station WEBC. The PTA Chorus presented Mrs. Hale of the Denfeld High School to give a lecture at the Lincoln about her year in Finland. Student Harry Osvald returned to Lincoln to complete his senior year of high school after spending six months in the CCC at Gooseberry Falls, where he served as editor of the twenty-page CCC monthly paper, "The Gitchi Gummi Undertow." Superintendent A. L Winterquist wrote an editorial about the high school pupil. There was an "In Memoriam" to Andrew E. Jarvi. In eighth grade school news, Alice Klemo couldn't attend school because of illness in her family that necessitated her entire family being quarantined for six weeks. The Esko Bears made a trip to Elde's Corner to trounce the All Stars from Elde's Corner in football. The English Lutheran Sunday School, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the church, presented an anniversary program at the Lincoln School. Among the various community news items was a story about Mr. H. J. Mattinen, local postmaster, telling about a new mail service from Duluth and Cloquet, bringing the total number of deliveries a day of mail to Esko to six. Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Olson held a dinner party at their home for the Latin classes. News was given for 4-H as well as the Future Farmers, who attended the first annual Future Farmers banquet of the district number 7 at Eveleth. The vocational agricultural students made a field trip to the Carlton County Potato and Grain Show at Cloquet, and exhibited there. At the monthly meeting of the Thomson Township Farmers' Club officers were elected, and plans for the annual Club banquet were made. Among musical selections were a number of selections by the Nopeming Finnish Choir directed by Isaac Esko. Twenty six Thomson Township young men attended the organization of part-time educational classes at the Lincoln School. The members of the Thomson Tommies basketball team were discussed, and the 1937-1938 basketball schedule was listed.

An Achievement day program for 4-H Club members was to be given at Barnum, with competition from the schools of Cloquet, Barnum, and Lincoln. The Senior annual publication, named The Echo, was sent to the printers at the National Religious Press in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Attendance figures were listed for the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade classes. The fourth and fifth grade classes were studying music appreciation. Juniors were busily preparing for the junior-senior banquet. School attendance was low because of illness. The boys were noted to be ahead of the girls in the bread club, and received their bakers' uniforms. There were advertisements from the following businesses: the Cloquet Cooperative Society; Juntti Bros. Stores; and the Johnson Bros. Store.

Description:: Superintendent A. L. Winterquist announced that the Valedictorian was Jane Lindholm and the salutatorian was Vieno Oak. Basketball players were honored, and sweaters were awarded to four senior girls, with letters going to both male and female students. The 4-H Club was to have a meeting with the clubs from Twin Lakes, Wrenshall, and Pleasant Valley. The Home Training II girls planned a pie sale to raise money for the 4-H Club. The volleyball, baseball, and track seasons opened. In sixth, seventh and eighth grade news, one of the items noted that Walter Stenman had returned home from working in camps. Included in the Town of Thomson News section were comings and goings of residents, announcement of the Luther League meeting and its program, and the meeting of the Thomson Nutrition Club at the home of E. Maunu. There were advertisements from the following businesses: H.J. Description:: For the first time there is a section with Town of Thompson [sic.] community news, which included the following; Oskar Johnson, Albert Johnson, and Arthur Wilde were to represent the Arrowhead Co-Op Creamery at the annual meeting of the Land O'Lakes Creameries at Minneapolis; dividends and shares were distributed to share holders of the Cloquet Co-Op Society, with a large percentage of the proceeds distributed at the Cloquet Co-Op Store Branch Number 3 at Esko's Corner; and there was an announcement that Miss Hilda Lehtonen was home from her employment at Cloquet. Seven motion pictures were to be shown on Friday nights at Lincoln School and Saturday nights at the Washington School, given by the Luther League and the Calf Club. Adoption matters entered into the news when Miss Johnson as a representative of the State Board of Control visited Lincoln School to censure Town of Thompson [sic.] records. Superintendent A. L. Winterquist attended two national conventions in Boston, including the National Conference of the Department of Rural Education and the National Conference of Superintendents. The active Bread Club started their yearly work. English III students, who were juniors, organized their English III Club. Representatives from the Duluth Teachers' College visited Lincoln School and spoke to the students about entering Normal School. The first advertisement in the newsletter was for the Johnson Bros. Ready To Wear Store in Cloquet. The Lincoln girls' basketball team lost to the Proctor girls' basketball team.

Description:: Freshmen were to be initiated at a party hosted by the sophomores. Mr. Jensen from Dassel, Minnesota, who was known as the Bird Man because of his knowledge of all things avian, lectured on birds. Violin lessons were offered to Lincoln students, courtesy of Mr. Moody. He offered to have one of his student teachers come to Lincoln School to give either class or private lessons. A high school band was organized, with twelve students. In 4-H Club activities, the Town of Thomson Club named those who won honors and elected officers among the total 51 members. One article was written in Finnish: "Arvoisat Kansalaiset." Subscriptions were sought to the Spotlight at the cost of fifty cents a year for the monthly edition. There were many absences due to boys staying home to dig potatoes. Superintendent A. L. Winterquist gave a speech over the radio at Superior about the Arrowhead Cooperative Creamery. In seventh and eighth grade news, music twas taught by Miss Lindquist three days a week and by Miss Radabaugh on two days. The first snow last year was noted to have occurred on September 25th, while this year it was September 24th. There were advertisements from the following businesses: Juntti Bros. Stores; and the Cloquet Cooperative Society.

Description:: The senior class made plans to publish an annual, chose staff, and secured several ads to help finance it. A one act play was presented by English IV students. Maymie Nygren won an oratorical contest in English III. The freshmen class published a newspaper for their class, with Miss Mauseth as a faculty advisor. An Easter program was to be presented by the high school students and the eighth grade students. In news notes, the north bus students' bus driver took the road through Scanlon and the North Road in transporting them back to Washington School. Bus students enjoyed seeing races between busses and farmers going to the Arrowhead Creamery. The 4-H Club met, and their program was listed. In Town of Thomson news, Mrs. R. Korby and Mrs. M. Forstie made a business trip to Duluth; trips to and from the township by various residents were noted. There were advertisements from the following businesses; Esko's Corner Garage; Cloquet Co-operative Society Number 3 at Esko's Corner; Juntti Bros. Stores at Harney and Esko's Corner; Johnson Bros. in Cloquet; and the First National Bank and East End State Bank of Cloquet.

Description:: In Thomson Township news, the monthly Luther League program was listed. An election for the township supervisor was set to be held at the Town Hall. The first moving picture entitled The Heart of a Coward was to be shown under the auspices of the Calf Club. Funerals were held for two aged residents named Elias Juola and Herman Skarp, Sr. The board of directors of the Local Fire Insurance Company met at the Washington School. The board of directors of the Arrowhead Co-Operative Creamery Association met. The Arrowhead Aces played the Proctor Rinkydinks basketball team at West Junior High School in Duluth. Arrowhead Creamery basketball team played the Carlton city team at the high school gym. Superintendent A. L. Winterquist spoke to an all school assembly about his trip to Boston. The Lincoln boys picked an all district team. The basketball season ended with games between Moose Lake and the Barnum. Elections were announced at a forthcoming 4-H Club meeting. The all male Bread Club baked bread for a Luther League luncheon. Advertisements included one for each of the following businesses: H.F. Skarp's Garage at Esko's Corner; Juntti Bros. Stores at Harney and Esko's Corner; First National Bank and East End State Bank of Cloquet; Johnson Bros. Description:: The school year end edition announced that Lincoln Won Honors on the Achievement Day held at Barnum, with Lincoln winners to have trips to compete at the State Fair. The Lincoln girls team won the championship in volleyball and baseball. Fourteen seniors were to graduate on May 30, 1928, with the address to be given the University of Minnesota's President, Lotus D. Coffman. The Baccalaureate sermon was given in the Lincoln gymnasium by Reverend Wargelin of Duluth. Seniors were honored at the junior-senior banquet. Eighth grader Emerth Nynas wrote about his trip to Barnum. News notes included an item noting foul smelling smoke coming from the Creamery that forced the closing of windows. The Echo, the senior annual, was deemed to be well worth its price of twenty cents. The State Home Economics Supervisor, Miss Keever, visited Lincoln School. In Town of Thomson news, the Luther League of Esko's Corner gave a program at the Finnish Lutheran Church of Cloquet; and comings and goings of residents were noted. Description:: The school faculty expressed their appreciation to the students in this Christmas edition. An operetta in three acts was given by the boys' and girls' Glee Club of Lincoln School. A performance was given by comedic magician Jim Manchester. A sleigh ride party from Lincoln School to Washington School and back again via Harney Road was enjoyed by 4-H Club members despite rainy evening weather. A Sunday school program was presented, with numbers listed. A Christmas program given at Lincoln School. The Lincoln boys beat Meadowlands in basketball, but they split a two game series with Wrenshall. The Lincoln girls also beat Wrenshall in basketball. Two movies about dairying were shown at Lincoln and Washington Schools. The farmers organized a farmer's bulletin board on which they could buy and sell goods. In addition to seventh and eighth grade news, and Washington School news, there were advertisements from the following businesses: Cloquet Co-Operative Society; Arrowhead Cooperative Creamery; and Juntti Bros.

Description:: Miss Aartola and Miss Tunturivuo gave interesting lectures at the Washington School about life in India. The Agriculture Department conducted a survey in the community to see whether or not the community people wanted to raise crops that were new to them as well as new equipment they wanted to have. The Luther League elected new officers. Mr. Winterquist took over the Farmers' evening class, due to the illness of Mr.Knuti. The 4-H Club met and thought about having another sleigh ride party. Mid-winter promotions were made at the start of the second semester due to the high IQ achievement scores and scholastic records of several students. The Lincoln girls' basketball team beat a new opponent, Floodwood, while the Floodwood boys' basketball team beat the Lincoln boys' basketball team. The seventh and eighth grade news was presented as well as advertisements from the following businesses: Arrowhead Cooperative Creamery; Cloquet Cooperative Society; and Juntti Bros. Stores.
