This is the Merritt Memorial Park grounds and a dog. A plaque on a large cut bolder explains that Leonidas Merritt donated the park and playground in honor of his clergyman brother Lucien.

In the fall of 1927 the Bardon's Peak, Mission Creek, Fond du Lac road to Jay Cooke State Park was completed, adding 12 miles to the Duluth boulevard system.
