Band members include: Standing, left to right: a Soo Line Official; Josephine Landing (1888-1928); Regina Klug; George Cheeseman (1882-1937); Inez Williams; Frank Monroe; Thomas C. Loftus (1872-1931); Carl Ettesvold (1883-1953); Erling Wollan (1899-1971); Elmer W. Benedict; Julius Haugen (1878-1947). Seated: Ed Torfin (1885-1959); and a person identified only by the last name of Funsten.
The Flaaten family came to Duluth in 1890 from Norway. Five brothers: Gustav violin, conducting, composition 1876-1929, Jens 1869-1922, Alphin cellist 1888-1953, Roy conductor and Henry were singers, musicians, composers, and music teachers of the Flaaten Conservatory of Music the Normanna Chorus and the Orpheus Singing Society.

This photograph shows the Marcato Orchestra, which was led by James Welsh of St. Peter. The five members were all from the Norseland Band. They included cornet players Julius Annexstad and Bennett Johnson, James Welsh on the sousaphone, saxophone player Raymond Johnson, and Julius Wagner on trombone.
