The area west of the Arena Auditorium occupied here by hundreds of parked RVs will be developed into Bay Front Park. In the summer of 1983, an Airstream rally occupied all of the Arena Auditorium parking lot and the area seen here taken by RVs. The dark rectangular building near the stern of the ore boat is the Flame Restaurant building. The slip at the far right will be filled. In the foreground the I35 freeway is under construction and building materials laid out to the right. the Ship Canal piers were being remodeled/rehabilitated in 1985-1986.

The Thomas Gray Campus Laboratory School, opened in 1958, replaced Riverview as the campus laboratory school. The campus laboratory school closed in 1983 and, in 1984, was repurposed and renamed Engineering and Computing Center. The building was initially named for Thomas Gray, who graduated from St. Cloud State in 1872, served as the school's president from 1884 to 1890.
Halenbeck Hall, completed in 1965, replaced Eastman Hall as St. Cloud State's home for physical education and athletics. The building was named for donor Philip Halenbeck. An addition was completed in 1980.
This watercolor drawing depicts "Bear Woman," a strong Chippewa woman with a bear crown. In the background another bear wades toward the reeds and the shoreline. This is one print in a series created for the Freshwater Society in Excelsior, Minnesota, donated to the Westonka Historical Society; one of a limited edition created in 1981-1985.
MJ Rossman, Assistant Director for OCLC and Reference, 1986-1996. MJ joined the Minitex staff in 1980 as Head of the Minitex Reference Service. She became Assistant Director in 1986 with responsibilities for directing the OCLC and Reference Units. Direction of the MULS Program was later added to her responsibilities. The New Sweden Feed Store began as a general store, but had been converted to a feed store by the time this 1985 photograph was taken in New Sweden, Minnesota.
The Northeast branch of Minneapolis Public Library was built at 2200 Central Avenue Northeas in Minneapolis in 1972 to replace the 1915 Central Avenue branch at the same location.

Nestled between large pine and oak trees, Penn Lake Library opened in 1970 -- the first free-standing library built in the City of Bloomington -- and was renovated in 2003. In the decades before 1970, the library operated out of various locations in the community including Bloomington Schools Administration Building (1954-1957) and Lincoln High School (1957-1962).

Library service to the Rogers area dates back to the 1950s and a book station in Ahlstrom s Hardware Store which held 400 volumes. The Hennepin County Library bookmobile served area residents in 1970-80.

When the ship is loaded with cargo, the orange-red painted portion of the ship is submerged underwater and not visible. As it os riding high, you know it is light because without the weight of its anticipated cargo.

St. Anthony Library has been providing service to St. Anthony and northeast Minneapolis residents since 1963, when it opened in a storefront in St. Anthony Shopping Center, Minnesota. In 2002 the library moved to a different section of the shopping center, at 2941 Pentagon Drive Northeast.

Exterior view of the St. Bonifacius branch of Hennepin County Library. The fa ade of the small building is decorated with two square columns with an ornamental frieze and pediment. St. Bonifacius Library opened in 1931 in the former People s State Bank Building which was donated to the Village of St. Bonifacius for use as a library by local landowners Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. Gale. The building, which was constructed in 1916, had no running water, restrooms or central heating and cooling until 1987. The library was renovated in 2006. It serves residents of St. Bonifacius, Mound, Minnetrista, Waconia and Westonka.

Stewart Hall, which opened in 1948 as St. Cloud State's main classroom building, was named for Warren Stewart. Stewart served as St. Cloud State resident director from 1938 to 1948.
