The Minneapolis Division was supplied by 4 hydroelectric power plants at St. Croix Falls, Coon Rapids, St. Anthony Falls and Wisota. They were supplemented by the Riverside steam station.

This 62-page document, from the 42nd Congress, 2nd Session, reproduces letters regarding the digging of the canal that connected the Duluth harbor with Lake Superior in 1871. The first letter, from William W. Belknap, Secretary of War, describes the process that was followed to dig the canal. Following letters, often exchanged between engineers or politicians and J.J. Egan, city attorney for Duluth, contain a discussion of the legality of the canal being dug as well as a discussion of the building of a dike to keep the waters of the St. Louis River from flowing through the canal and filling the Superior, Wisconsin, entry with silt. Annual report of financials and list of power plants owned by NSP. Due to the high cost of steam and gas coal, fuel charges absorbed about 21% of gross earnings. Development of a water power plant on the St. Croix River was underway. A ten year plan was announced.

Annual report of financials and list of power plants owned by NSP. The cost of coal in 1920 absorbed 24.07% of gross earnings. To offset this postwar inflation, NSP raised gas and electric rates. Preliminary work began on an additional 25,000 kilowatt steam turbine at Riverside steam plant.
