The document is handwritten in Yiddish and describes the purpose of the organization and how the governing body and the congregation shall conduct business. The Agudas congregation was Orthodox, part of a small and diverse South Side community composed primarily of Romanian and Russian immigrants. Among other admonishments, the document proscribes talking out of turn or over one another at congregational meetings, advocating instead of observing Roberts Rules of Order, a new concept for first-generation immigrants. Translated, from Yiddish, by Joe Rozenberg, February 2005.
