This is the West Duluth plant of the Zenith Furnace Company. West Duluth is a neighborhood of Duluth. Captain August B. Wolvin bought the aging blast furnace at this Fifty-seventh Avenue West location, modernized it and organized Zenith Furnace to operate it. It produced pig iron. It was incorporated in 1902. The plant produced 175 tons of product in 24 hours. In one month in 1916, a record of 310 tons of pig iron was produced in 24 hours. The site covers 80 acres and includes a coal dock. Coal gas, ammonia, and coal tar are by-products. It employed 350 men with a payroll of $35,000 a month in 1916.

Exterior view of The Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis. The building was built in 1901. The unappealing exterior is in stark contrast to the hospital's modern and luxurious interior, which featured comfortable furniture and fine architectural detailing. The lace curtains hung in the patients' rooms are visible in this photograph if you look closely.

Advertisement for International Stock Food with a testimonial by E.L. Rolph of Pender, Nebraska, about the effectiveness of the feed on horses. International Stock Food Company was owned by Marion Savage, who bought race horse Dan Patch to help promote his business. Consequently, Dan Patch is featured on many International Stock Food Products. The horse and his owner had a close connection: Dan Patch died July 11, 1916; Savage died of a heart attack a few days later. Dan Patch became less significant as America embraced the automobile. Ironically, Savage started manufacturing the Dan Patch automobile in 1911.

Students stand, in military arrangement, outside of St. Bernard's convent school holding rifles. St. Bernard's was a school for boys staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet from 1905-1910. It was also a military academy with training provided to the boys by a Civil War veteran. Staffing a school with military training was very unusual for the Sisters of St. Joseph. The school was destroyed by fire in 1910.
Catalog from the spring art exhibition organized by the Minneapolis Society of Fine Arts, parent and governing body of the Minneapolis Institute of Art. The exhibit was also held in Winona, Minnesota under the auspices of the Minnesota State Art Society. Some of the works were part of an award competition including: non-Minnesota artists; members of the Governing Board, Exhibition Committee, and Jury of Award; and, art school students. "This exhibition was arranged by the State Art Society for the City of Winona, and opened there on March eighteenth, closing April first, nineteen hundred five". In the early 20th Century, Twin City Rapid Transit Company operated special sightseeing streetcars that toured the Twin Cities. In this photo, two of them are at the Mounds Park wye at the south end of Earl Street.
The streetcar company operated special sightseer streetcar offering tours of the Twin Cities. This car runs alongside the Lakewood Cemetery, near the shore of Lake Calhoun

The Selby Avenue carhouse at Selby and Kent was originally built to house and provide power to cable cars operating on Selby Avenue Here it has been converted to electric streetcars.

"Professor Winchell excavating the old Indian village at Cambria, Minn." The Cambria site (21BE2) is located above the Minnesota River 25 km northwest of Mankato. The site was initially reported and mapped by Newton winchell in the early 20th century. The site was later excavated by W. B. Nickerson for the Minnesota Historical Society in 1913 and 1916.
